Over and over Jesus said “My time is not yet here”. Important words for us to follow.

God often calls us long before the day of action. Noah had 120 years to build the ark. Moses had 40 years of desert life. David had decades of serving a bad king after being appointed to replace him. Daniel had visions thousands of years before they came to pass.

Wait. It’s all in the timing.

While waiting, God is preparing your heart. Not so much that we be able, but that we be humble. The greatest risk with mankind, you and I, is pride. Success brings pride and pride brings a fall. When we see the work of our hands having success, we get proud unless God has built protection within us. That takes time. Time spent so that we do not fall when we succeed.

But Jesus had another reason to wait. He wasn’t plagued with pride as we are. He learned humility in His own desert journey after baptism. His waiting was for the seasons.

One does not plant one day and harvest the next. It takes time. Life is about times and seasons. All the way back to creation, God appointed seasons and time. Our creation, our universe is driven by time.

Even if you know what to do, even if you have faith to do it, strength to stand against all odds, wait for the right time. Occupy yourself with preparing your heart in humility.

Stepping out too soon leads to failure. Many of the failures in my life stem from being impatient. Being in a hurry can actually be a lack of faith! “I must hurry before the window of opportunity closes”. No! How faithless! Did God ordain it? Is He God? Does He ever miss something? He owns the time! How foolish to think that He doesn’t control time and circumstance. We become impatient and scared when WE are in control, when we are proceeding in our own strength. Relax! Wait on His timing.

Don’t delay, no. But don’t move on something just because it’s there. Wait on God’s timing, on His opening of doors. Just because He showed you something does NOT mean it’s time to pursue. Maybe He showed you your future!

Jesus waited, patiently. While waiting He busied Himself with life, serving others, spreading truth and light, standing firm in truth. But …. He waited.

We would be wise to wait on Him. Don’t get anxious. Walk in faith of timing, as well as action.
